We have explored and mulled over this question in great detail, looked at numerous surveys, and indeed have commissioned our own survey to identify those coaches who we believe will be a perfect match for our business vision. You may well think this is an easy question to answer however, we guarantee If you ask 100 coaches what their answer is, you will get at least 50 different replies.
Why is this? Because coaching is not a united profession, coaching is fragmented, with many dubious theories being purported such as “The Law of attraction”. There's quite a lot of fragmentation in coaching, and quite a few fads, doing the rounds, such as Mind Magic, and Mind Mapping. Missionary coaches, who spout ideas, which go far beyond business behaviour such as Mind and Spiritual Healing. There are people out there who call themselves coaches, who have received no formal coach training, much less any accreditation from a registered body. Sound familiar?
These people do our profession, no good whatsoever, and undermine the credibility, integrity and perception of the value of coaching, and the coaching profession.
Internal coaches see training and certification as more important than experience, and are certified at a far higher rate than external coaches who are usually experienced veterans who came into the profession prior to University training becoming widely available.
It takes two things to make a good coach: Training and Experience. Experience in business is important. Training as a coach is important. Experience as a coach, on top of everything else makes the difference between average coaches and the very best coaches.
That is why we have developed these University accredited coach training programmes, to bring together training and experience. The programs were not developed by an academic within a university structure. They have been developed from a strong successful business background and belief in the coaching ethos. They were then presented to the universities In order for them, to examine their academic worth and appoint the appropriate learning credit award for each course.
A therapy or counselling back-ground are a solid basis for personal and life coaching, but business experience, tops everything else as the best background for becoming an executive coach. Even experienced coaches are actually adopting standard processes and accreditation this trend will continue, newer coaches are already adopting and using accreditation to gain entry in to the profession. As this trend continues, the ranks of unaccredited coaches will diminish.
By now, you will understand the need to produce and train not just average coaches but the very best coaches. If you want to be part of this exciting new development in producing exceptional coaches, whose training standards are the very best and feel you can work exclusively for the benefit of and personal development of your coaching delegates then
